How are you managing being a wife and business owner? How do you preserve your sense of self?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the spirit of all things self-love and courage this month, this question about the preservation of self was all too timely. I shared a snippet on our Instagram page but here is a bit more of what I have meditated on this week. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A good friend and I were discussing the plights of the world and I found myself saying, “everything rises and falls on self-awareness and enlightenment.” That statement stopped me, and her, in our tracks because of how profound yet easily forgotten it is. Easily forgotten because the demands of daily life force us in a constant state of “do-mode.” We work with our head down without a connection to the gifts we have readily available to give in each moment and task. All too often, we’re on autopilot.
Since I truly believe in doing meaningful work, I can only do that from a full vessel and that starts with the pouring into my growth and sitting to understand myself. Love in its fullest form starts with self-awareness which births purpose which then helps you create a life of aligned tasks.

So how do I manage? I start by honoring my core truth. Revisiting my purpose, my identity, honoring my energy levels, feeding my mind, body, and soul through an hour, 30 mins or sometimes 15 mins of reading, journaling, and planning out my day with a cup of coffee. I also have become more diligent with my gym time which has become my moment of decompression.
After I give my mental, emotional, and physical buckets what they need, I can freely and unconditionally pour into my husband and our household. This also includes not trying to do everything. I’m confident enough to not strive to win this “housewife of the year” award; something recently learned after a year. If I need help, I'll ask. If I'm growing weary of washing the dishes, or putting up the laundry they sit or he helps. The world doesn't end. Thankfully, my Type-A personality doesn't let me fully-function in an unorganized space for too long but I am human. Lol
Once everything in the house is in a good space, I give to the business and work in alignment with my energy and purpose set out for the day. I’ve learned to stop the glorification of “busy” and do not work for work’s sake. I want to always provide quality and that comes from a full cup. Always. This proved especially useful for me from this last month. I found myself getting tired much more easily than before and I realized it was because I was trying to chase down statistics, best times to post, and on and on and on. It was too much. I was getting distracted by the analytical side of business and moving further away from why I started all of this in the first place. I took a step back and revisited my core values which energized me. Of course, I'll revisit all of that stuff later and I have a capable person to help with it but I learned that I cannot do it all. I have to protect my creative energy in order to build and run a business effectively. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Lastly, I make the effort to give each bucket its own attention. I try to avoid multi-tasking since that is counterproductive. Sometimes my buckets overlap when it’s busy but I try to keep these moments few and far between, if I can help it. If my well starts to run dry at any point when managing life, I write out what needs to be done to prevent a racing mind and honor my body by unapologetically resting. 😊⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With invested time to continually learn myself, establish my priorities and work purposefully in each life bucket I find the flow of working each of my life buckets. I have stopped the glorification of being busy and instead work meaningfully. I try my best to not multi-task in order to give each task at hand undivided attention to give my give in each moment. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What about you? How do you preserve your sense of self?⠀⠀
